Natural Elements

I would like to introduce you to Natural Elements.
Natural Elements is a company that brings Hawaii to you through the use of natural Hawaiian bath products, made in Hawaii.

Natural Elements was started in 2005 after a visit to Hawaii. The company knew that these high quality bath and body products could compete with other natural bath and body products on the mainland. That was the beginning of Natural Elements.

Natural Elements offers many different types of luxurious bath and body products that use fragrances reminiscent of a trip to Hawaii. You will definitely find a product that suits your needs, from cremes, to shampoo, to lip balm tins, there is something for everyone.

Some of the traditional Hawaiian fragrances they offer are: coconut, mango, passion fruit, plumeria, and pikake.

I recently had the pleasure of reviewing Natural Elements' Pikake Travel Bag. This travel size bag full of FSA sized products was certainly a treat to use.

Included in the travel bag are:

2 Pikake lotions, 1 Awapuhi Shampoo, 1 Awapuhi Conditioner, 1 Pikake Natural soap, 1 Kauai Kiss Lip Balm in a tin, and 1 Macadamia Vanilla Lip Balm tin.
This travel kit is a true luxury item. from head to toe. After using the products, I felt that all I needed was a lei and I would instantly be transported to a wonderfully white beach, complete with palm trees swaying in the wind, and a warm surf crashing ahead. Alas, I was in my bathroom, but the joy of knowing I was using natural products, that had the fragrance of a luxury vacation; gave me the feeling that Aloha surrounded me.

Finding distractions for your child while waiting at the doctor or a restaurant or during grocery shopping trips, can be difficult. I'm always on the look out for things I can easily stash in my purse to entertain my little ones when they get bored from waiting. Here's where iStoryTime comes in.

iStoryTime is a downloadable application for your iPhone/iTouch. It is a fully illustrated and narrated storybook. So even young children, who don't know how to read yet, can fully enjoy it. It's very simple to use...even my 20 month old was able to use it. The best part is, it doesn't take up any extra space in your bag or purse! The illustrations are colorful and cute and the narration is fun and entertaining. There are several stories available for download and for just $1.99, you can't beat the price!

I downloaded "Fred the Fish and the Squash That Goes Squish." It's a cute tale of a fish trying to convince a walrus and a penguin that there are better things to eat than fish. My son loves messing around with my iTouch so I showed him his new "game." He was laughing during the story and thought that Fred's voice was quite amusing. He and his little sister have enjoyed watching and listening to this story over and over again.

With this iStoryTime application, you can control whether the narration uses character voices, standard adult voice, or silent. This lets a child who can read, read it on his/her own. There is also a manual or automatic page turning mode. It can be customized to fit the need of the child who is using it. This iStoryTime application would make a great addition to any iPhone/iTouch and is a great alternative to video games or movies.

Tired of the summer heat? Want a yummy way to cool down? Then you simply must make Honey Peach Ice Cream! I'm not generally a big fan of fruity desserts, but I have recently come to love peach cobbler and I think this ice cream tastes just like it!

Honey Peach Ice Cream
(adapted from Dorie Greenspan)

Ingredients
2 large ripe peaches (about 1 lb), peeled and pitted
1/4C honey
1C whole milk
1C heavy cream
3 large egg yolks
1/2C sugar
2tsp vanilla

Directions
Coarsely chop the peaches and add to a small saucepan with the honey. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat, cover and cook, stirring occasionally until the peaches are soft (not mushy) about 10 minutes. Scrape into a blender or food processor and puree. Set aside and make the custard. Bring the milk and cream to a boil in a med saucepan. Meanwhile whisk together the egg yolks and sugar until well blended and slightly thick. While whisking drizzle in about 1/3 of the hot milk mixture (this tempers the eggs so they don't scramble). Continue to whisk and pour in the remaining liquid. Pour everything back into the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring without stopping, until the custard thickens slightly to coat the back of a spoon (when you run your finger down the back of the spoon, the custard should not run back into the track). Remove from heat and pour into a heatproof bowl. Stir in the vanilla and peach puree. Chill in the fridge until completely cold. Churn in an ice cream maker according to the manufacturer's directions. Then transfer to a container and freeze until firm.

Enjoy!

Hello, Cupcake!
Irresistibly playful creations anyone can make

A couple of months ago I purchased Hello, Cupcake! from Costco. There I stood in the book aisle flipping through the Hello, Cupcake! book staring at all the yummy cupcake creations. I knew I had to have it!

Hello, Cupcake! is a New York Times bestseller and for good reason! Hello Cupcake is a collaboration between Karen Tack and Alan Richardson. This isn't your typical cupcake recipe book. Karen and Alan made it easier for all of us to whip up beautiful cupcakes that look amazing with a few shortcuts along the way. No baking skills or fancy equipment required! Sound good?

Hello, Cupcake! opens with an introduction, a supply/essential list as well as list of techniques (step by step)that are used to create the cupcakes. The best tool? A ziplock baggie! All the cupcake instructions use store bought cake mixes, canned frosting and candies. There is a list of resources at the end of the book as well as a few "from scratch" recipes (if you have the time!) Many items can also be found online. I'm going to make the shark cupcakes for my son's third birthday (I'll post pictures!) and I really wanted blue cupcake liners as shown in the book. While certain liners might not be easy to find at Michael's or a similar craft store I hopped on over to Bake It Pretty and ordered them. Lots of sweet finds right at your fingertips.

You will find a ton of occasion cupcakes in Hello, Cupcake! including, birthday, wedding, holidays and animals. The photographs are beautiful! Even my two 1/2 year old loves looking at the book with me. We flip through it and he says, "which one mommy?" We pick our favorites. He enjoys looking at the "slumber party" themed cupcakes. They are made with cupcakes, marshmallows, jelly beans, fruit chews, vanilla wafers, teddy grahams and of course canned frosting. What kid wouldn't love one of these at an actual slumber party?

Hello, Cupcake! is really fun for the whole family!

You can purchase Hello, Cupcake! from Amazon for $10.37.

Check out the Hello, Cupcake! Site

Soy Delites
100% All Natural Soy Candles

Soy Delites specializes in 100% soy candles. Soy Delites is owned and operated by Garland and Christy, a husband and wife team. They started producing and selling their candles in 2002, sticking with soy instead of paraffin. There are many benefits to creating a candle with soy instead of the typical paraffin.

-Soy is a sustainable and renewable resource
-No emission of soot
-Soy is biodegradable so it can be cleaned up with soap and water.
-Soy candles burn slower and last longer due to the low melting point.
You can read further by visiting Soy Delites information page.

Soy Delites has a wide variety of scents. I received a sample of the Pomegranate and Vanilla. I could smell them before I even opened the box. So fragrant! You'll notice the unique jars the candles are poured in. The glasses are faceted which creates quite a display when the lights are down low! You can snuggle up with your honey while watching a movie and burn a Soy Delite candle for a romantic evening in.

The candle jars are available in 5 oz and 9 oz, they retail for $8.50 and $12.00. You will also find votives, tins and tea lights. All very reasonably priced.

Once you start burning your candle, your whole house will smell amazing! If you happen to live in Texas there are numerous retail locations where you can find Soy Delites candles.

4th of July Cake

Posted by Shake Your Bon Bons | | | 2 comments »

If you are looking for a festive dessert to wrap up your 4th of July meal, look no further. This cake is as colorful as it is tasty.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups prepared blue Jello liquid
  • 2 cups prepared red Jello liquid
  • 1/4 cup Tabasco Sauce
  • 2 prepared angel food cakes
  • 1 cup whipped cream
  • Fresh strawberries and blueberries as desired for garnish

Directions

Combine 16 ounces of blue Jello with 1/2 oz Tabasco Sauce and combine 16 ounces of red Jello with 1/2 oz Tabasco Sauce. Keep colors separate and do not harden. Slice each cake into thirds horizontally. Top the bottom slices equally with blue Jello and the top slices equally with red Jello. Chill cake at least 6 hours, until Jello is set. Once the layers are set, spread 1 ounce of whipped cream over the blue layer and top with the plain layer of cake. Top this layer with 1 ounce of whipped cream and top with the red layer. Repeat with second cake. Garnish cake with more whipped cream and fresh berries just prior to serving.

Makes 2 cakes, 12 servings

Cook's Notes-if you do not wish to include the Tobasco Sauce in this recipe, omitting it will not affect the final product (other than not having the warm flavor the sauce provides).

Celebrate!

Enjoy your fourth of July weekend!
