I think it's a fantastic invention. My one-year old is already trying to plug things in...I'd like to get the little ones out and get some big ones in. Kudos to the dad here, who took the initiative to make this happen.

"One day I removed a standard sized outlet safety plug, set it on the edge of the table and my one year old daughter grabbed it and stuck it into her mouth. She nearly suffocated. I saved her life.
After I saved my daughters life, I called the producers of these devices and asked them to change their plugs to be larger because they posed a choking hazard. They told me if I thought it was such a problem then I should do something about this. During this time same frame, my daughter handed me her pacifier and an idea came to me. A life saving idea, that is. So I researched US pacifier regulations and it turns out that pacifiers must be made larger than 1 3/4 inches in greatest diameter and contain at least two (2) ventilation holes located no closure than .2
inches to the outside edge and larger than .2 inches in diameter. They
challenged me to do something about this, so I am.
I invented SafetyCaps."

I wanted to first share the story of our featured company. Scary isn't it? I've thought about this issue so many times myself and wondered why someone didn't come up with a "safer" outlet plug. I always try and keep these out of the reach of my toddler because I was afraid that he would pick one up and put it into his mouth.

Finally someone has come along and invented a safer outlet plug. George DeCell started a company Safety Caps. George has fought long hard for his product to be regulated, even taking his battle to the Consumers Product Safety Commission who by the way said no. We're getting the word out on this product and ask you to do the same, for the safety of all small children.

Why are Safety Caps the better solution? Safety Caps measure 2 1/4" in diameter and include two small holes located on each side for added safety. It's ALWAYS best to keep small objects out of the way of small children no matter what it is, we want all children to be safe. This little safety product is so simple, yet potentially life saving. AND so easy...just plug it in! I've replaced all of my standard outlet plugs with Safety Caps. It's so easy for us to procastinate and think "aw yea, I'll get to it", take action now and change those plugs.

Help get the word out about Safety Caps by blogging about them or sending emails to Oprah and Ellen. Doesn't it just make sense?

I'm not your typical girly, girl but deep down I have a huge love for all things girly. Having my own girl really has brought that out! I love dressing her up and doing her hair now that she finally has some. I love getting hair bows and clippies for my daughter. I was excited to receive an adorable pink headband bow from A Little 2 Sassy. It's simple, yet elegant. It's also very versatile since it is all one color. I love the way it looks on my daughter. It is constructed well and it looks like it will hold up even after multiple times of being pulled on.
A Little 2 Sassy has something for everyone. From simple bows to very fancy ones, A Little 2 Sassy has you covered. A Little 2 Sassy also carries purses, bandannas, necklaces and much more. I'm sure you'll find the perfect gift for you little princess.

Here's a little bit about Kristina, the creator behind A Little 2 Sassy:
"Now that I’m grown and have kids of my own, I have found myself making crafts for them. My daughter Mackenzie, is my inspiration behind the hair bows. I started making hair bows for Mackenzie a couple years ago when she started playing softball and cheerleading. I received many requests from the other mom to make hair bows for their daughters. I have always dreamed of using my creative talents to start my own business, so here I am today with my own website A Little 2 Sassy. Thanks to my grandmother and my daughter I’m doing what I love."

Jump Start Give Away

WINNER: janetfaye // February 22, 2009 4:24 AM
I like that it is personalized, imaginative and fun for kids.

My 3 year old loves playing games, especially on the computer. He's quite computer savvy for his age and loves being able to play all kinds of learning games. I was really excited when I was asked to review Jump Start. As a former teacher, I had previously used some Jump Start games in my classroom. Jump Start is full of learning games for kids ages 3 to 8.

Jump Start allows your child to learn at his/her own pace and gradually builds on the skills that he/she has learned. Your child will have the opportunity to travel around the 3-D virtual world and play a variety of interactive games that teach math, spelling, and so much more. Your child can customize clothing, hairstyle, eye color, and more on his/her Jumpee character that travels through out the world. The games are fun and really hold my sons interest. He really enjoys the matching games and making his Jumpee bounce around from place to place. I enjoy it as well. There are parent forums to discuss questions and connect with other parents. You are also able to check your child's progress and read articles on a variety of topics. Jump Start has fun for everyone! I would recommend Jump Start to anyone.

Give Away
One lucky Mammalicious Finds reader will receive 3 months enrollment in the Jump Start virtual world for free! What a great deal!

The No-Cry Nap Solution

Posted by Mom to 3 Rug Rats | | , | 38 comments »

WINNER: tarahsfoodreviews // February 20, 2009 11:29 AM
I learned that you can easily adapt nap routines to your child's developing needs

I find it difficult to find parenting help books that fit with my parenting style and beliefs. I've read a couple of books by Elizabeth Pantley when my oldest was a baby and again when I was trying to transition him to a toddler bed. Her tips follow up nicely with my parenting style and the books are set up in an easy to read format. I was excited when I was asked to review Elizabeth Pantley's newest book titled "The No-Cry Nap Solution."

This book is an easy read. I love how the book outlines the importance of naps and it discusses various reasons a child or baby may resist a nap and different solutions to fix the problem. "The No Cry Nap Solution" stresses the importance of sleep in growth and development and outlines how much sleep is needed for a child at any age. The nap logs and nap plans that are recommended in the book help parents to identify and then set a plan to develop a schedule for getting a child to nap without all the stress of crying and fighting sleep. I wish this book would have been available a year and half ago when my oldest son gave up naps. It would have given me strategies to keep him napping. I plan on using some of the tips I've learned in this book to keep my youngest napping well into her toddler years. I would recommend this book to anyone with a small child. To learn more about this book or other books written by Elizabeth Pantley, please visit her website here.

Elizabeth Pantley has kindly offered up an autographed copy of the book "The No-Cry Nap Solution" to one of our readers.

These two shops are so much fun and there's a little something for everyone tastes.

At Funk Du Jour Designs you will find trendy jewelry made with all kinds of cool things like poker chips and license plates!! You will also find bracelets, bottle cap jewelry, custom pieces, Judaic Jewelry, typewriter pieces and more!

Poker Chip Necklaces

License Plate Necklaces

I received a piece of Francine's Twilight jewelry for a review. I was excited to open the package as we have not reviewed a Twilight inspired item. I LOVE LOVE my "Bite Me" necklace. I became a huge fan of the Twilight books late in the game and became smitten with the books just like all of Stephenie Meyer's fans. And yes that picture above is Stephenie wearing one of Francine's "Muse" necklaces! How cool is that?

The "Bite Me" necklace holds three charms on a 18" ball chain. The charms include an apple, moon and a "bite me" charm. The necklace is simple, but oh so funky! The necklace is very well made and I love the look of the hand stamped "bite me" pendant.

I know there are a lot of Twilight fans out there and whether you're on Team Edward or Team Jacob...or even a huge Bella fan, Francine has a piece of jewelry for all of you.

The Twilight Series Jewelry includes...
Bite Me Necklace - $30 Bella bracelet - $25
Edward necklace - $30 Good/Vampire Bad Vampire Necklace - $20

Mimi and Reese
Fun, Functional and Fabulous!

Mimi and Reese is all about totes, tees, aprons, bulletin boards, and a few bows. You'll love visiting Mimi and Reese, the pictures are fabulous, the designs are bright and colorful and you can even have items custom made just for you! There is a simple ordering process for both the etsy shop and the shop Mimi and Reese blog. All you have to do is send an email with the following information:

1. Would you like a tote, t-shirt, apron, or bulletin board?
2. What colors do you like?
3. Would you like a girly, typewriter, or rock and roll font? Add and Initial?
4. Would you like ribbons?
5. Questions? Drop me a line at mimiandreese@yahoo.com
6.Ready to purchase? Drop me a line at mimiandreese@yahoo.com , and I'll set up a Paypal payment request, or use our "buy now," buttons.
7. I'll ship your purchase after I receive payment.

Pretty easy right? Mimi and Reese is owned and operated by Teresa Outhier and her mom Mimi. How fun is that?

I am a mom to two great kids and wife to a really cute husband. I love being crafty with my kids. I love bright colors, and my house looks like an art gallery for little people.
I have always wanted to own a business with my husband or sister,so I named my shop Mimi and Reese. I am Reese, and my sister is Mimi. Now I can at least pretend that I own a shop with my best girlfriend.

Teresa was kind enough to send a Custom Tote and Coffee Bling to review.

The custom tote was created with our little girl tester in mind, so I chose pink and brown for the colors. They were also the colors of her baby shower so it was perfect. "Madalyn" is centered in a pink oval with a border of white and brown. There is a brown and pink polka dot ribbon sewn around the tote's edge and topped off with a big bow. Very girly and oh so lovely! A special tote to carry all those little treasures in.

The Coffee Bling, otherwise known as a reusable coffee sleeve is made out of an adorable turquoise and brown floral print. There is a brown felt flower sewn to the front with a button. The back looks just as good as the front! A big white button adds a little detail to the perfectly finished backside of the Coffee Bling. Rick rack is sewn in the edges all the way around the sleeve to add a little sweetness and originality. It measures about 3" high and is insulated to keep your hands from getting too hot or too cold. The sleeve will fit most commercial beverage cups.

Both items were very well made and receive a Mamma thumbs up! You'll find many different color combos for both products on the Mimi and Reese sites. I have to admit I also love the Pink Coffee Blings, talk about a fabulous print! I know there's some of you that love pink just as much as I do. :)

Please take a look at my little photo session with the reviewed goodies...

Abe and the Amazing Promise

Posted by Mom to 3 Rug Rats | | | 1 comments »

We are a Veggie Tales loving household. My 3 year old son enjoys watching Veggie Tales and I love the fact that they are an entertaining way of teaching lessons and morals. Bob and Larry are witty, silly, and lovable and can hold my little man's attention. They also make me laugh and I enjoy watching them with my son as well.

I had the pleasure of viewing the newest Veggie Tales movie entitled "Abe and the Amazing Promise." In this movie, Bob and Larry learn a valuable lesson in patience. The story is set around the Biblical story of Abraham and Sarah and their wait to have a son like God has promised. Bob and Larry along with their camera crew venture out to learn what God has in store for Abraham and Sarah as they wait on becoming parents. Along with the story of Abraham and Sarah, Larry adds his twist on being patient in the hilarious Blunders in Boo-Boo-Ville. Larry learns that doing things correctly instead of rushing through is the best way to solve a problem. Having patience to wait for what God has planned or simply just learning how to wait for your turn is a valuable lesson that all kids should learn.

Dylan really enjoyed "Abe and the Amazing Promise" and has now watched it almost daily for the past week. I would recommend this movie to anyone.

Meet our February Mamma of the Month
Koryn Hutchison
A working at Home Mamma!
Sites:
Interview:
Tell us about your business...

I am a work at home mom, and make custom designed mothers jewelry and hand stamped personalized silver jewelry. I also make fun and fashionable jewelry pieces. I love to work with customers to come up with something uniquely theirs. I am inspired by nature, children, seasons and life’s circumstances. I started Bosom Buddies after my breast cancer diagnosis, to help women find things that are handmade and useful during their journey with cancer. I make digital print greeting cards and cancer awareness jewelry too.

What’s the best part of being a Work at Home Mamma?

Even with children in high school, I am happy that I can be available to take them to doctor appointments, music lessons, and be around to talk with when they get home from school. I can work on my jewelry between folding laundry or cooking dinner.

When I was diagnosed with breast cancer this fall, I was able to put my business on hold while I recovered from surgery. My customers were very supportive and have come back looking for me, checking to see how I’m doing and if I am up for an order or two. That flexibility has been very nice!

What’s the hardest part of being a Working at Home Mamma?

I find myself easily enveloped in my work, and tend to let hours slip away from me while working in my basement studio. Sometimes I will get a lot of orders all at once like during the holidays and Mothers Day, and that’s when the laundry piles reach to the ceiling! Oh well! I always manage to play catch up in the end.

How do you juggle family life and business?

Family always comes first. Business works itself around it. Fortunately my family doesn’t depend on my income, so if and when I have to put the brakes on business it’s okay.

What do you like to do for fun when you’re not working?

I enjoy cooking, kayaking, walking, coffee shops, playing bunco with friends and going out with my husband.

A Special Note: I was very moved when I read Koryn's interview and read further about her cancer journey on her blog. Sending prayers your way Koryn for strength and courage. Thanks so much for giving us a peek into your world and how you balance it all!

My Little Card Shop
Handmade Cards and Tags

Sally owner of My Little Card Shop actually operates two shops, one on Etsy and one on Lollishops, both equally adorable!

Sally specializes in tag sets, note cards, card sets, gift boxes and more. They are all handmade by Sally of course and she puts her own spin on the designs. I think the packaging is really quite clever, especially for the mini note cards sets. A few of the mini note cards sets come to you packaged in an envelope with the cards on one side and envelopes on the other. So creative! Love the sweet little "don't forget" elephant card too.

Something very unique that I've never seen before are Sally's bracelet cards. Each bracelet coordinates with the card that it is attached to and can be worn by the recipient. I'm thinking this would be fun for wedding cards, tea's, etc. Each card retails for $4.00

More about Sally!
Hello, my name is Sally. I live with my wonderful husband and three sweet kids. When not occupied with the rest of life, I love to craft, especially paper crafting. I like things pretty, cute, and cheerful things. Here at Sally's Card Shop you will find lots of ribbon, flowers, dots, pretty paper, and fun embellishments.

Jenny, a friend at MOPS told me about Etsy and encouraged me to come here several times, and I'm so glad she did. But we didn't have the Internet until this summer. Now I am so thrilled to make Etsy my second home. There is no place I'd rather be. Creating, photograhing, listing, watching, and selling... this is so much fun!

Paper Cakes
Sweet Paper Treats! ♥Lots of Yummy Valentine Goodies♥

Wow, pages and pages of yummy paper treats! A whole lot of cupcakes too! You're gonna love this shop. Tags and cards galore! I don't even know why people go to the store to buy greeting cards anymore when there's so many cool shops like Paper Cakes offering home made alternatives that cost the same amount and are twice as sweet.

Not sure how to embellish that special gift? Why not try one of these adorable tags from Paper Cakes? You have MANY MANY choices,I thought these little owls were adorable. If owls aren't your "thing" Chelsea, owner, creates all kinds of fun little designs. The sock monkey tags are great too.

You can find out more about Chelsea on her fun blog HERE
I had to check out Chelsea's profile..."New mommy living in idyllic Prince Edward Island with her lovely husband Matthew and son Jude. Loves making things, cuteness, indie music, shopping, dancing, home decor, and her boys. Blogs about her crafts, things she loves, her family, and feathering her nest." Sounds like Chelsea loves what she does, and that's what it's important!

Cupcakes and Couture
Deliciously Glam & Sweet!

Doesn't this shirt say it all?? You betcha! Cupcakes and Couture hasn't officially launched yet, but we're getting a sneak peek! Thanks Clarissa!

Clarissa is the owner behind Cupcakes and Couture. The Etsy shop has a few items already stocked. Why not proclaim to the world your love for cupcakes? You can with one of these fabulous cupcake tees. I think my favorite is the brown tee pictured above. The tee retails for $25.00 and is available in a couple of different color combinations. There's a ton of cupcake clothing for little girls, but this is cool, because the Mammas get to get in on the action.

We are FRESH! We are new to the scene and hope to bring you the cutsey-ness of a cupcake and the glam of couture all rolled up into a nice lil package known as Cupcakes & Couture: Deliciously Glam & Sweet ;)

We are so excited for the launch of this fun new shop. You can keep up to date on all the latest news via their blog The Diary of a Poshpreneur which is a fabulous blog. I became a follower!

Jillian Haupt & Co.
One of a Kind Art & Murals

Whimsical, sugary, sweet, glittery, and a whole lot of pink! If I had a little girl I think I'd go nuts in this shop. Jillian Haupt is the artist who creates the one of a kind art pieces at Jillian Haupt & Co. There are quite a few girly girl items, but there are some for the boys too! You'll find custom plaques that can be personalized, ornaments, personalized tees, princess fairy wands, dolls and more. Jillian's shop is something out of a fairy tale, you'll know what I mean when you browse around for yourself. Each painted piece whether it's a little frog prince or cupcake captures your eye and makes you want to click on it to read more!

A little more about the talented artist, Jillian...
I've been painting, sewing and creating designs from a very young age. I studied Commercial Graphics Design at Southern Illinois University and started my own business in 1997.
Jillian Haupt & Co. has evolved from custom murals and hand painted furniture to one of a kind, whimsical art prints and 3-dimensional, multi-media artwork. Everything is created right here in our studio located in the historic town of Morris, Illinois.
My husband, Kurt, carves and cuts just about anything that I ask him to. He's also an incredible engineer with a great sense of workmanship.
My daughter Kayla, who is 13, is a wonderful storyteller and is busy creating her own collection of items such as the kittens that are available. She also attends shows and helps out in the studio when needed.
My mother Anita creates beautiful, one of a kind collage art birdhouses and memory boxes. She also helps us out at shows and lends a hand when we need help glittering, painting, gluing....well, you name it and she's there to help!

It's a family business! Mammas need a little help every now and again, and hey if it's fun for all why not?

Jillian's blog is just as much fun as her Etsy shop. You can read the blog "Sweet Moments" by Jillian HERE. Jillian's latest post was titled, "Warning: Sugar Overload". I don't think you can have too much sugar or too much pink! That's just me!

Michele's Glass Bead Treasures
Glass Bead Creations & Embellishments

Classy is the first word that comes to mind when browsing Michele's Glass Bead Treasures. Gorgeous brooches, charms, earrings and pendants a plenty! These exquisite little beauties are all handmade by Michele Wilder. And when I say little I mean little. I'm eyeing the Rich Pink Floral charm and it measures 3/4" wide by 3/8" tall, what talent to work with such a small piece! These pieces are a result of my combined enjoyment of needlework, "little" things, sea glass, stained glass windows, flowers, and sparkling jewelry. All of these items are hand stitched and are of my own design using beautiful glass (some of them vintage!) and crystal beads. Michele's jewelry is ultra feminine and the perfect accent to any outfit.

I'm going to have to be predictable and once again choose a pink cupcake as my favorite. I can't help it! Maybe I need a cupcake intervention? The little pink cupcake charm with sprinkles is adorable. The charm retails for $8.00- cute and a bargain!

Have a wedding coming up or hosting a special afternoon tea? Michele would be more than happy to customize exclusive jewelry pieces for your wedding party and guests. Special requests are always welcome, now that is awesome customer service.

You can find out more about Michele and peek into her life a little bit via Michele's Treasures, Teacups & Tumbling Rose Cottage, her blog.

Baby Cakes Online Bakery
Cupcakes, Marshmallows & Truffles

Let's start by saying, oh my goodness! Could it be? A bakery devoted to Cupcakes, Marshmallows AND Truffles! Yowzas, be still my heart!

This scrumptious online bakery is owned by Micki, in her words... "Owner and Chief Cupcake, Marshmallow & Truffle Maker. Mom, Wife, Cab Driver, Doctor, Nurse..LOL I'm it all. I'm MOM!!" A mom who is busy making us drool I might add!

Micki is baking up some deliciousness. Take your pick, marshmallows, truffles or cupcakes. How about one of each thank you! The marshmallows are little fluffy delights that come in four flavors: peppermint, vanilla, chocolate and cinnamon. Each package contains twelve marshmallows. I'm thinking the sampler pack is the way to go, then you can try a little bit of everything!

Die hard chocolate fan? The truffles are for you then! There are seven flavors to choose from but why not go whole hog and try the "death by chocolate". :)

****drum roll please**** Last but not least the cupcakes! Nine yummy flavors to choose from. I'm a big red velvet lover so I'd have to go with the red velvet cupcake. Of course they all look absolutely DIVINE! You can also enroll in the cupcake of the month club OR try the cupcake sampler. I'm digging all the options.

Now your turn, go take a look at Baby Cakes site. Don't forget to physically prepare yourself, you might experience severe tummy growling and an incredible urge to eat a cupcake, truffle or marshmallow.

The Polk Dot Barn
Mixed Media Goodies

Calling all vintage lovers! You're going to have fun checking out The Polka Dot Barn, on Etsy and Lollishops! Two stores to pick your favorites from. You'll find a lot of little lovely vintage/altered paper treats. Tags, notecards, shadow boxes, maybe a vintage hankie or two. I think my favorite tags are the "Sweet as Can Be" gift tag set. What a clever design, the bow and crepe paper ruffle, and love the pink.

Altered art is quite the rage right now, and Jan Thomason has it perfected! With the combination vintage and altered art you arrive at a truly unique and whimsical finished piece. All very reasonably priced!

A little more about Jan and her creations...
I am a self taught artist and have been pursuing my passion for about 10 years. My studio is located in a renovated barn on our ranch. It's pink....it's dusty, drafty and leaks but it's all mine and I love creating there!

All of my creations are handmade in my studio and we give every piece we create our full attention to detail. As an artist I will take artistic license when necessary without altering the integrity of the piece.

A pink barn?!? How cool is that?

You can check out Jan's beautiful shops...

Fruit Fly Pie
Ceramics & Embroidery, Handmade for your Home & Garden!

Fruit Fly Pie
is all about ceramics (with a few other little treasures thrown in the mix)! Sweet little owls, frogs, turtles, piggies...quite a zoo I must say. Of course my favorite are the cupcakes! My favorite hands down is the Strawberry Cupcake Cookie Jar with a Cherry topper. Pink and a cupcake?! Gotta love it!

Fruit Fly Pie's items are all handmade by Wendy. They are are food safe, lead free and non-toxic. That means you could use them for just about anything. Perfect for storing little goodies! What a wonderful gift they would make, very unique.

A little more about Wendy and her creative ways...
I'm a ceramic artist and graphic web designer. I have a degree in multimedia web design. But It was my elective pottery class and my love of plaster that Fruitfly Pie became.

Fruitfly Pie is ran exclusively online. I work out of my ceramic studio located beside my home in a rural area in North Carolina. I make and sell vintage style ceramics and embroidery for the home and garden. I share my studio with 2 wonderful potbellied pigs, Sammy & Freddy. They inspire me to use alot of pigs in my art work but you wouldn't know upon entering my home that pigs were my favorite because it is filled to the brim with owls. Hoot Hoot !

When I'm not working on ceramics, which is rare. I like to throw on the potters wheel, play guitar, draw, and read. And at the end of each work day, I like to watch movies and knit while hanging out with my family and potbellied pigs.

Fruit Fly Pie was recently featured in Bust Magazine's Holiday Gift Guide. Congrats! What's even more fabulous? You have the opportunity to win this cute Chunky Chip Muffin Trinket Box.

Perfect Cupcakes
A young man was visiting his brother and sister-in-law for Sunday dinner. As he arrived at their house he found his young nephew, Mikey, helping them bake some cupcakes.

After they were done, his sister-in-law allowed Mikey to put the icing on. When the boy had finished, he brought them to the table.

"The cupcakes look delicious, Mike." his uncle said. He took a bite and said, "Mikey these are so good."

As he finished cupcake and took another, he again complimented his little nephew. "The cupcakes look beautiful, Mikey," his uncle said. "How did you get the icing so neat?"

His nephew replied, "It was easy. I just licked them."

The uncle turned pale. He pointed to the plate of cupcakes. "You licked all of these?"

Mikey replied, "Well no. After a while my tongue got tired, and I got the dog to help."

Gracie Designs
Be.Cute.Now (Handmade Accessories)

I have been a fan of Gracie Designs for almost a year now. One of my very first business purchases was a business card holder, seen here. I love it just as much now as I did back then. Over time when you open and close something with a snap you expect it to have a little wear and tear right? My holder is still in awesome condition with no signs of wear and tear. There are so many more items in this little shop, what fun. Earrings, headbands, Cuddle Me's (more about that later), button fancies, aprons...accessories galore! All items are handmade by Kelley, owner of Gracie Designs.

Okay...so as I promised the Cuddle Me's. What's a Cuddler? Well...you can cuddle your coffee in the morning and cuddle your ice cream in the evening, how good does that sound? These eco friendly "sleeves" wrap around your beverages and most importantly ICE CREAM (pint size)! We don't want those hands to get too cold or too hot. The Cuddler is the perfect solution! They come in the cutest fabrics too, guess what our favorite is? Okay well if you glance down you'll figure it out. Kelley was kind enough to offer up ONE cupcake beverage cuddler and ONE ice cream cuddler as a set--that's two cupcake items! YAH!
