Of course, like most products, Bugalug Barrettes were born out of a need. There were so few cute barrettes out there and nothing that would stay in my friends newborn’s hair. Together we tried many different styles, ribbons, clips etc. and this was the best product we could make. We loved the idea that they were safe (non-toxic glue), super cute and yet not too cutesy, and that they stayed where they were put! And Bugalug Barrettes was born.
Initially I started promoting the barrettes at trade shows and craft fairs within Calgary. The response was overwhelming! Mom’s LOVED the simple designs, the trendy colors and the exceptional value. We also tested the chocolate mint sudsy soap. A sweet little duck sponge that already has the soap in the sponge. My son loved it! Each time we go into the bathroom to wash hands or have bath time I hear, "duck, duck, duck". My son has used the duck four times and it still has soap inside of it! Plus when the soap runs out, he'll have a sponge to use any time he wants.

Dr. Bronner's Pure Castile soap is amazing. Not only does it have a ton of uses but it's safe, non-toxic and it works like magic. I heard about Dr. Bronner's awhile back so I thought I would give it a try. I bought the Almond and the Peppermint scent and I love the fresh smell both scents leave behind. I use it diluted with water as a multi-purpose cleaner for my counter tops and sinks. I also use it as a mop solution. My husband is notorious for leaving greasy fingerprints on the garage door after working on his motorcycle. One squirt of Dr. Bronner's and the grease just melted away. It also is safe to use on painted surfaces unlike the eraser cleaners that can remove some of the finish layers.
Dr. Bronner's is "Unlike any you’ve ever used. About me: I am an Army wife and mother of a precious little girl. I absolutely love Interior Design and received my degree in Interior Design from Texas State University.
1. What inspired you to open a boutique? I decided to open a boutique after having my daughter. She is my first child and my pride and joy. I then began to get into all things baby. Being a Designer just increased my "obsession" with baby and children items. It has been extremely important to me to be able to stay at home with my daughter, but at the same time I have a huge passion and a degree in Interior Design. I felt that opening a boutique would allow me the best of both worlds (being able to be at home with my little one and doing Interior Design)
2. What makes your boutique stand out from the others? I wanted my site to be different that other baby/children websites I have seen.. I wanted to offer a wide variety of products and Interior Design Services from a Professional Designer. Also, I was getting very discouraged at the false advertising/pricing that I was coming across with other sites. I wanted to offer my customers a REAL discount when they purchased from me.. When doing my research before opening my store I realized that many stores say that they are offering you a discount. They would tell you that the MSRP was actually higher than it was supposed to be and then saying that they were knocking off $30 or so giving you the discount. I soon found out that was not true and these stores were selling their items for the actual MSRP (NOT giving you any discount). Discovering this information irritated me and felt this was very dishonest. I feel that when my customers are doing their own research on buying bedding or accessories they will see that I am truly offering a REAL discount of the MSRP
3. How do you decide what products to carry? Since I am a designer I look and choose what styles/themes are in style and will stay in style for years to come. I also try to pick items in all price ranges which will appeal to many different budgets.
4. How do you design a new room? What is the process? How long does it take? When designing a room I ask that the client to send pictures of the room they want designed, measurements of the room, a quick sketch of the room and budget. I then draw up the room in AutoCAD or ArciCAD ( computer aided drafting programs). I first place the bed in the room, I feel that the bed/crib is the main focal point. At this point we also pick out the bedding and/or the paint color. From there I place the rest of the pieces so that the room will be visually balanced. Lastly, the accessories give the room the final touch and brings everything together. Depending on the room size and the amount the client wants done to the room I would say that having a room designed usually takes anywhere from 3 days to a week. Every client receives a professional floorplan and furniture layout of their room. They also receive a list of the items purchased for the room, and instructions on how to lay the room out. 5. What is your favorite product that you sell and why? I absolutely love to sell bedding, both baby bedding and children's bedding. I feel that the bedding gives the whole tone to a room. It also tells you a lot about a persons personality and their interests (esp kids). Little ones get to excited when they see their favorite color, animal, or thing in their room and esp on their bed. I love to see their little faces light up, it tells me that I've done my job right!
6. Anything else you want parents or expecting parents to know? I would like parents and expecting parents to do their research when purchasing online. Just b/c a website tells you that you're receiving a discount doesn't mean you really are. Price compare and find the stores that really are on your side.

Why Flax seed as a filler? The actual seed of flax contains 30 – 40% of an oil known Flax seed Oil. Cloth diapering is very addictive. I got into it about 4 months ago and I enjoy trying new things and finding cute, fun diapers for my son and daughter to wear. I especially enjoy finding products made by WAHMs. I received a diaper cover from Smallish Things and I was so excited to try it out.
This cover is made very well. The attention to detail is fabulous. It has a layer of aqua PUL with a white fleece trim around the leg openings and waist. The fit is perfect on my 7 month old daughter. I used her as my model and tested this diaper cover out over the course of 3 days. I used it over a Kissaluv Fitted Size 1, a Little Lions Premium Prefold, and a WAHM fitted. In all three instances, the cover kept Maddie's clothes dry and I did not experience any leaks even though there was an episode with the prefold (I won't go into details). The pull-on style of this cover makes for easier diaper changes and a tighter fit. I would recommend this diaper cover to anyone. Enjoy these pictures of the diaper cover in action:

Recently I've started to look for more natural, earth friendly bath products to use on myself and my kids. I want to get away from using all the chemicals that are in most mass produced products. I heard about Blue House Soaps on a message board and I thought I would try them out. I ordered the shampoo bar samples and the Aloha Conditioner.
They came in the mail and I was pleasantly surprised by how cute they were packaged. I couldn't wait to try them. I was a little nervous at first switching to a bar style shampoo instead of the traditional liquid but I was pleased at the lathering ability of the bar and it made my hair feel and smell super clean. I have several more samples to try but I am already postive that I have found a new way of washing my hair.
